Ahh, love. A natural emotion with hundreds of twists and turns embedded in. Yet another Valentine’s Day has passed and society has depicted many more expectations as to what this holiday should resemble.
Given this blog is run by a teenager, the take on what love means to me is going to be run on a past experience with this love filled day. Based on this year’s Valentine’s Day I will be giving my own thoughts as to whether or not love is something to hate or, well, love. However, the Valentine’s Day I will be focusing on won’t be my own. A good friend of mine has described her day in great detail, so instead of spilling my own Valentine’s Day, which resulted in a lot of food and homework, she had personally given me permission to spill details about her’s instead. Instead of completely revealing her identity, she shall be known as Kaison.
By Kaison’s standards everything was perfect; from the card, to the gift, to even her completed look. The only thing missing was, well, her valentine. Cupid didn’t exactly shoot his arrows in the direction she had hoped. If anything, he had completely missed his target. During school, I had been with Kaison as she fawned over her supposed “true love”. When the time finally came and she had gotten the guts to give her gift to her alleged valentine, he took it gratefully.
This story unfortunately doesn’t end in a happily ever after. Kaison had given the gift during lunch break, and afterwards we all had a class to attend. At our school singing valentines, along with a flower, were able to be sent to whomever we choose, and as an extra surprise Kaison has sent one to her crush as yet another little gift. She hadn’t seen her crush after school but the day after, we ended up talking to another one of our friends. Our friend had said her cousin had received a flower from Kaison’s crush, the flower that had come from a singing valentine.
Long story short, Kaison was utterly heartbroken. Being a writer herself, she had written this to vent:
“Why do I even bother trying?
I’ve given you all that I had;
my prized possession: my heart.
She gave you one glance
and you fell to your knees.”
In all honesty, who could blame Kaison for how she felt. Well, that’s what I am going to be discussing. Love is a strong emotion and often comes with difficult paths that need to be taken, but the question still hangs in the air. Is love worth the pain?
From this example, it would seem as though love wouldn’t be bringing enough pleasure to even out the pain. However this is just one example of many. Over sixty percent of people celebrate Valentine’s Day and over two million have their wedding on this specific day (Statistic Brain). Kaison had even said despite the crash and burn with her crush, “love wasn’t completely destroyed” for her. Love has no formula to it. It’s not an exact science nor is it something everyone understands.
Millions of people have fallen in love, and while some relationships don’t exactly work out, that doesn’t mean your one true love doesn’t exist. So while love has its ups and downs, hating love, well that’s up to you.
Thank you for reading this week’s edition of “Blog Worthy?” Special thanks to Kaison for letting me exploit her Valentine’s Day.
