The Inevitable – Change

Welcome back to another edition of “Blog Worthy?” If you’ve been following along with my blog, you may have noticed that my articles are sporadic. I truly do apologize for that. Today I’m going to be discussing why the articles have not been constant, as well changes that have been taking place. So I invite you to sit back and enjoy reading.

 I’ve been doing a lot of thinking recently and I’ve decided that it was time for a change. I created this blog a little over three years ago and when I did, I was super excited and very much happy with the direction it was going. However, as my classes got harder and my life just went south, this blog was just never one of my top priorities. Despite my love for writing, this form of expression just didn’t help me as much as it used to because I was pressuring myself to do it. For the past few months I have been trying to change my mindset and remind myself that this blog was never supposed to be a job. It was supposed to be a way to practice my writing for what I hope will one day be my job. 

As I have grown in these past years, I have also encountered many, many AP classes. When I first started off in 2017, I was only a freshman. Now, as a senior, I have had twice the work load and twice the amount of stress that I used to. In that time span, I never really saw writing as being a tool for relaxation as I was doing it so vigorously in school. I never had any intention of completely abandoning this platform, as there were many times in the past few years where I had started an article but never felt that it was up to par with what I should be doing. 

Now that I have explained my constant absences, there are going to be a few changes to the blog which are coming quite rapidly. The design of the blog, as you may or may not have noticed, is no longer the same as it once was. I had originally intended to stick with the old theme, however it was retired and I can no longer use it. Another change I would like to address would be that I am no longer going to be using solely illustrations for each post. As you may remember my artist and senior editor, Nhi, had been the one to make the most wonderful pieces of art to go along with the topic of each post. Now, I will be turning to photos I take myself, or ones that I find on the website “Unsplash” where I will be giving credit to the photographer who took the photo. Given that Nhi is also a busy person, I will not be asking that they edit every one of my articles. By no means am I a perfect writer, as I’m sure I will be making plenty of mistakes that I won’t catch here and there, but I will for now be foregoing an editor. I would also like to address that there was no falling out, as Nhi and I still remain very good friends. 

I also know that I am not the best at posting articles on a constant schedule, however I plan on trying to get an article up every Wednesday so be sure to look out for those!

Another big change I would like to address would be my alias. As you may or may not know, during these past years I have written under the alias of “Kit.” It was a nickname given to me by my friends that I have used for many things. I have found that I have been using the name as a way to hide away from what I had written out of fear of embarrassment or hateful words. However, I’ve grown and have become more confident in what I write, and more importantly, in myself. 

So I would like to introduce myself. My name is Kristen Fernandez. If you would like to learn more about me, please refer to the “Meet the Creators” portion of my blog. 

For the time being, those are the few things that I have wanted to get off my chest. Thank you for reading this announcement. I hope to post another article very soon.
